Brunei Darussalam’s 36th National Day Celebration

On Brunei's National Day, exports are crude oil, natural gas and garments, and imports are machinery and transport equipment, manufactured goods, food and chemicals

It was an honor and pleasure to be invited to Brunei Darussalam’s 36th National Day celebration on February 21 at the Embassy of Brunei in Washington DC. National Day is February 23rd.

Brunei is an oil rich country in South East Asia that has maintained a friendly relationship with the U.S. in regards to bilateral security, economic, and people-to-people ties... for the past 175 years!

On this day, many neighboring ASEAN ambassadors as well as U.S. State representatives attended to celebrate Brunei’s National Day – a day to commemorate the country’s independence from the United Kingdom in 1984.

In trade Brunei primarily exports commodities including crude oil, natural gas and garments while importing machinery and transport equipment, manufactured goods, food, and chemicals. The total trade between the United States and Brunei was US $365 million in 2018.

Brunei is also known for its beaches and biodiverse rainforest. The pristine natural beauty and peace-loving culture of Brunei was beautifully portraited in many paintings done by Serbini Ali, the Ambassador of Brunei to the U.S.

Thank you very much, Ambassador Serbini Ali for showing us the warm hospitality of the people of Brunei.

Sincerely, Mi Jeong Hibbitts
