We held roundtables with tourism leaders from different countries on what's next for the industry and what each of their countries has to offer.

Speakers Biographies

Lucy Karume

Director, Jacaranda Group of Hotels** Head**

Lucy is a Director with the Jacaranda Group of Hotels, Kenya and a Trustee of the Njenga Karume Trust. She is also a recognized leader in the private sector having served as the Vice Chairperson of Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) and currently as a director at KEPSA Foundation. KEPSA is an alliance in pursuit of an enabling business environment, engaging the government at the Executive Office and all the different organs of the government. Lucy represents KEPSA at various local and international platforms as keynote speaker in different fields Lucy is well known and highly respected in the Tourism Sector, and she has served as Chairperson of Kenya Tourism Federation. KTF is the leading voice that articulates the needs of tourism and hosts seven other private sector bodies under its umbrella. Lucy is an MBA graduate in hospitality management and has been in the tourism industry for almost 30 years, working in various tourism related companies. Lucy is a director at The Nature Conservancy. Lucy was awarded the Institute Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Community from Kenya Association of Hotel Keepers and Caterers and Institute’s Award for Outstanding Citizenship which is awarded to the student who in the opinion of the senior members of the faculty has, in their everyday dealings with others, demonstrated civility, character, strong personal commitment and a professional attitude from International Management Institute, Luzern Switzerland. Lucy has a strong passion and drive for an integrated regional tourism and a strong commitment to give voice to ‘The Boy Child's Platform. She is involved in various charitable organizations.

Lauren Shannon

Partner at Arigato Japan

Lauren comes from a background of entrepreneurial business development in the content writing, travel, technology, food/beverage and hospitality industries. She is a partner and General Manager of Arigato Japan Travel, A culinary tourism company in Japan. From 2014-2016, Lauren was the content and community director for Odigo Japan, a travel planning/ itinerary building and sharing website and iOS application. She previously launched her own creative agency "True Taste Tokyo - Stories from Japan." The agency was focused on social media, and content marketing for small creative travel and other businesses based in Japan. Lauren is a Pennsylvania native, but has lived in Japan for over 20 years. She is an avid traveler, reader, writer and creator of projects, her Arigato Japan partners nicknamed her the Arigato Japan CoMT "chief of many things"

Mona is the Founder of Merge Experiences. She is a travel professional with work experience of over two decades with specialisation in Inbound Travel for upscale travellers, primarily from North and South America & Australia. Our work involves research, planning, designing, logistics, budgets, marketing, luxury travel, leisure travel, special interest travel for individual travellers focusing on Indian Aesthetics.

Writer – articles on lesser known profound temples of India.

Founder – The Home Kitchen – Manufacturer and Suppliers of Freeze Dried Instant food items.

Sary Valverde Madrigal

President of the Costa Rican Association of Travel Agencies.

She has a degree in International Relations; she has a master's degree in Business and Marketing from the University of Costa Rica-Fundepos and a master's degree in Project Management from the OBS Business School of Spain. She completed the Senior Management Program at Universidad Latina and Harvard Extension, and has a specialization in Digital Marketing from Kellogg University. She is the Commercial Vice President and Relations of Viajes Colón and director of special projects. She is responsible for the development of the marketing and communication strategies of these companies, which are family owned. She was president of Canatur in the 2018-2020 period and a member of the Board of Directors of the Union of Costa Rican Chambers of Private Entrepreneurs (UCCAEP). Current President of the Costa Rican Association of Travel Agencies (ACAV).

Arturo Zamarripa is a University Professor and a Linguist in Guanajuato, Mexico. He has been an entrepreneur since 2000 starting three different business in the State of Oregon in the United States. With over 17 years of experience in business management and customer service he is also the Co-founder and Director of English Language Center in Guanajuato, Mexico.

He holds a degree in Computer Science from Universidad Tecnológica del Norte de Guanajuato, 2011, and also finished his B.A. in English Language Teaching from the Universidad de Guanajuato, 2015. In addition, he will finish the Master program in Applied Linguistics from the Universidad de Guanajuato in December, 2017. This academic formation has provided the opportunity to present research projects in international conferences.

He speaks Spanish and English. Moreover, he studies German, Italian and Japanese. He is interested in promoting international networking, developing business and conducting scientific research in language teaching. Arturo enjoys helping anyone who is interested in personal and professional development and loves to work with others.

Mercedes Valdivia - Perú. Mercedes Valdivia es licenciada en turismo por la Universidad Nacional San Agustín, con Maestría en Gestión Pública. Es empresaria y propietaria de Global Viajes Express SAC, agencia de viajes que cuenta con diferentes premios por la aplicación de buenas prácticas de gestión de servicios en turismo y del Plan Nacional de Calidad Turística del Perú, otorgado por el Ministerio de Comercio Exterior y Turismo. Miembro del comité de mujeres empresarias de la Cámara de Comercio de Arequipa.

Miguel Angel Oroz Barrientos - Licenciado en Turismo y miembro de diversas entidades culturales y profesionales como el Comité Cívico de Defensa del Patrimonio-Cusco, el Consejo Regional de Colegios Profesionales y la Cámara Regional de Turismo- Cusco, así como muchas otras. Docencia Instituciones Turísticas CICATUR, INITUR. IST AMERICANA. Capacitador en proyecto IDENTIDAD Municipalidad Provincial del Cusco. Facilitador en programas de desarrollo turístico. Conferencista sobre temas de turismo y cultura andina.

Carlos Fernando Canales Anchorena - Abogado por la Universidad San Martín de Porres, con Posgrado en Maestría en Desarrollo y Defensa Nacional, realizados en el Centro de Altos Estudios Nacionales – CAEN. En Turismo, cuenta con un Post Grado en Dirección Estratégica en Turismo y Hotelería de la Universidad Alcalá de Henares, España y una Especialización para la Alta Dirección en Administración del Sector Turismo – PADE de la Universidad del Pacífico, así como un Post-Grado en Gerencia de Marketing dictado por la Escuela Organización Industrial de Madrid, España.

Dr. Luis Núñez Noriega - Coordinador de Turismo de Sonora. Economista, con maestría en Economía Agrícola y doctorado en Desarrollo Económico, por la Universidad de Arizona, Estados Unidos. Investigador en Desarrollo Regional del Centro de Investigación en Alimentación y Desarrollo y Coordinador de Vinculación Institucional de 1993 a 2013. Pertenece al Sistema Nacional de Investigadores Nivel 1. Presidente del Colegio de Economistas de Sonora del 2002 al 2010. Vicepresidente del Colegio Nacional de Economistas del 2004 al 2006. Fue Asesor de gobiernos estatales en Sonora, Nayarit, San Luis Potosí, Quintana Roo, Campeche y Michoacán, así como de diputados locales, diputados federales en diversos periodos. Fue Asesor del gobierno de la República de Ecuador en seguridad alimentaria bajo el acuerdo de cooperación técnica y científica de la Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores de México del 2010 al 2012. Fue Asesor del gobierno estatal de Mato Grosso, Brasil, en políticas de comercialización de productos primarios del 2010 al 2011. Coordinó en México el proyecto internacional Advanced Technology Transfer Program entre la Universidad de Arizona y el Centro de Investigación en Alimentación y Desarrollo para la Transferencia de Conocimientos hacia las Empresas Agroalimentarias Mexicanas. Coordinó la creación de la Denominación de Origen, la Norma Oficial y el Consejo Regulador del Bacanora en Sonora. Colaborador de la Organización de Estados Americanos en el área de Desarrollo Económico con el Director General Jorge Sagiante, en 2011. Conferencista magistral y organizador de foros y seminarios nacionales e internacionales, destacando el foro “Promoviendo la Cultura Empresarial Responsable y Sustentable en las Américas”, con la organización de Estados Americanos de las Naciones Unidas, en el 2011. Organizó el foro “Precio de los alimentos: De la Crisis a la estabilidad en el marco del Día Mundial de la Alimentación 2011”, bajo el auspicio de la Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, en el 2011. Organizó el Foro Internacional para el Desarrollo de la Acuacultura en Zonas Áridas y Desérticas, con la participación de 7 países (Australia, Egipto, Israel, Estados Unidos, México, Uzbekistan y Namibia) bajo el auspicio de la Food And Agriculture Organization of the United Nations en el año 2010. Fue Delegado de la Secretaría de Economía en Sonora 2013-2018. Fue Director General de la Administración Portuaria Integral de Sonora, noviembre de 2018 a agosto 2019. Actualmente Coordinador General de la Comisión de Fomento al Turismo del Estado de Sonora y Vocero de la Reactivación Económica de Sonora.

Jorge Luis Cabrejos Samamé - Encargado de la Subsecretaría de Promoción Turística del Estado de Guanajuato. México Es Licenciado en Relaciones Industriales por la Universidad de Guanajuato con maestrías en Gestión de los Recursos Humanos en las Organizaciones por la Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona y en Desarrollo Organizacional por la Universidad de Guanajuato. Los primeros años de su carrera profesional se centraron en el Desarrollo Humano y loa capacitación y formación de personal. Su gusto por el compartir experiencias lo llevaron a las aulas y ha sido profesor universitario en las Licenciaturas de Turismo, Relaciones Industriales y Comunicación en la Universidad de Guanajuato, Universidad Iberoamericana Campus León y Universidad Santa Fe. Desde hace 10 años, incursiono en el sector turístico ocupando los cargos de director de la Oficina de Convenciones y Visitantes de Guanajuato, director de Relaciones Públicas y director de Mercadotecnia en la Secretaria de Turismo de Guanajuato. Su pasión por entablar relaciones humanas y el desarrollo de proyectos, le han permitido entender y ser participe proactivo en la ejecución de iniciativas en distintos entornos.
