Who should watch? Business leaders in any of the three regions who are looking to grow more effectively should connect in. We also reach out to business leaders looking to learn more about the business opportunities in Australia, Japan and the UK.
Amid free trade negotiations between the UK and Australia, coupled with the UK announcing that it looks to formally apply to join a free-trade partnership that includes countries such as Australia, Canada, Japan, and Singapore, it has never been more important for global business leaders to be aware of the driving forces that bring about successful trading opportunities.
International Trade Secretary Liz Truss in the UK discussed the move with ministers in Japan and New Zealand early in January 2021 and requested to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). The impact of joining CPTPP will cut tariffs in trading with its 11 members along the Pacific rim, which also include Mexico, New Zealand, and Vietnam. UK trade with the group last year was worth £111 billion.
Australia and the UK have a significant relationship underpinned by a shared heritage, common values, strong people-to-people links, closely aligned strategic outlook and interests and substantial trade and investment links. The Australia–Japan partnership is its most mature across Asia for Australia and is fundamentally important to both countries' strategic and economic interests. The relationship is underpinned by a shared commitment to democracy, human rights, and the rule of law, as well as common approaches to international security.
Australia and Japan also share deep and longstanding trade and investment ties. Japan was Australia's second-largest trading partner and second-largest export market, and third-largest source of foreign direct investment at the end of 2019. In session one...
