Trade missions and reverse trade missions are back! The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) hosted a Business Briefing with a Thailand government delegation in energy generation on May 18 at USTDA’s Business Center in Arlington, VA. I participated in this meeting on behalf of Global Chamber®, a member of “Making Global Local”, a collaborative program by USDTA that includes key US partners. The meeting represented a unique opportunity to meet decision makers from the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and to learn about Thailand’s transformative path to clean energy.
EGAT is the state-owned power utility responsible for electric power generation and transmission in Thailand.
Participants learned about Thailand’s newly-approved National Energy Plan 2022 that proposes to achieve carbon neutrality by 2065-2070 with renewable energy accounting for a 60% share of its new power generation. It supports the country’s move to green and clean energy while increasing energy generation capacity to support growing demand. This could lead to $4.2 billion in investment in the sector.
In addition, EGAT representatives learned about state-of-the-art U.S. technologies, best practices, financing mechanisms and regulatory frameworks to support the clean power generation transformation in Thailand.
Thailand’s path to energy transformation offers significant opportunities for U.S. energy solution providers in the following areas.
o Renewable and clean energy generation including solar, wind, hydrogen, biogas and biomass
o Distributed energy resources
o Carbon capture, utilization, and storage
o Battery and pumped hydro energy storage systems
For U.S. exporters, we encourage you to participate in "Reverse Trade Missions" organized by USTDA that bring buyers to the U.S. to develop understanding and connections for future exporting in a series of key areas.
Global Chamber® supports these along the way, including coming up... this smart grid Reverse Trade Mission coming up in Chicago here.
