Global Chamber® Baltimore/Washington extends its deepest sympathies to all those affected by the tragic incident of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore today.
We also recognize the critical importance of efficient transportation infrastructure for economic connectivity and are prepared to support the affected business communities. The extended closure of the bridge will disrupt supply chains and impact the operations of the Port of Baltimore.
We urge authorities to swiftly address the situation and restore this vital link in the region's transportation network.
The Francis Scott Key Bridge spanned the lower Patapsco River and outer Baltimore Harbor between Baltimore and Dundalk, Maryland. The main span of 1,200 feet was the third longest span of any continuous truss in the world. The bridge was named for poet Francis Scott Key (1779–1843), the author of the American national anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner". He wrote the poem after witnessing the bombardment of nearby Fort McHenry by British ships of the Royal Navy in Outer Baltimore Harbor during the Battle of Baltimore in the War of 1812.
