Global Chamber® Experts Discuss Next Steps for USMCA and Regional Trade

Global Chamber® convened trade experts and business leaders on May 21, 2026 for the globinar “Important Update on USMCA – Part 2 of 3,” a special Globinar hosted by Global Chamber Los Angeles, Phoenix and New York City.

The session focused on the latest developments surrounding the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), exploring potential scenarios after July 1st and the implications for regional and global trade.

Speakers included Carol Colombo of Fedelta Partners and the Arizona District Export Council, William Edwards of Edwards Global Services and the Southern California District Export Council, Eduardo Gonzalez of 258 Consulting, Thomas Cook of Blue Tiger International, and Global Chamber® CEO Doug Bruhnke. More insights were shared by Michael Patterson of Spencer Fane LLP and Arizona District Export Council leaders.

The discussion covered major issues impacting North American trade, including country of origin rules, “substantial transformation,” supply chain strategy, tariffs, foreign trade zones (FTZs), and investment trends involving China, Mexico, and Vietnam.

Panelists also explored developments in key sectors such as energy in Mexico, dairy and lumber in Canada, and the growing importance of regional partnerships like Arizona-Sonora collaboration and sister city relationships.

One of the key messages from the session was clear: companies involved in importing, exporting, and cross-border operations should prepare now for possible changes and disruptions rather than waiting for final outcomes.

The event highlighted the importance of staying informed, building mitigation strategies, and strengthening regional partnerships as North American trade policy continues to evolve.
